Artist Bio
One of the most prominent R&B artists of the late ’80s and early ’90s, Bobby Brown was instrumental in popularizing the new jack swing movement, a fusion of traditional soul, electronic funk, and hip-hop beats that often included rap interludes between the standard melodic sections. As a key architect of new jack swing, Brown was also its most successful proponent, achieving mainstream pop success with his groundbreaking Don’t Be Cruel album and establishing new jack swing as the dominant trend in R&B throughout the early ’90s.
